Brutal training run
In church. The girls come home, today, which is great. Can’t wait to be together, again. Very tired.
Yesterday, Lynn, Jeff, Mike and my buddy, Patrick Phillips and myself ran the Provo Half Marathon. Afterward Patrick and I biked 20 miles to the Spanish Fork Reservoir and swam in some very cold water (about 1/5 mile). Then we biked 20 miles back to my house where the ordeal ended. It was exhausting and today I’m very sore.
Today, I pulled the largest zucchini out of the garden. Huge. I wonder what it will taste like.
Here’s a race I’d like to run
September 4th:

This is held on the Salt Flats…looks way weird.
This past weekend…
On Friday night, I biked in the Antelope by Moonlight 22 mile ride. It was a lot of fun and full of mosquitoes, if you like that sort of thing. It started at 10 PM and took us halfway around Antelope Island. It was a lot of fun, but when I got home at 2 AM, I only had hours before waking, Saturday morning, for the…
Cascadia Trail Series Gruesome Grizzly 8k, which is a horrible, horrible race that I’m sure I’ll do, again, next year. It is the mean little brother of Sapper Joe. You climb for approximately 345 miles (2 miles) up and up through dirt, rock-trails and eventually free fall for another 2 miles. When you hit the bottom of the canyon, your run is over and you get a t-shirt before you head off to the hospital. It’s great and like I said, I’ll do it, again.
On Saturday, I moved the lawn and felt like I’d pass out. It was the 3rd event in some horrible triathlon dream sequence.
On Saturday night, I worked all night until about 5 AM, then fell asleep. Woke at 8 and worked a little. Went to church at 11 and left at 11:30 so that I could work some more.
Yesterday (Monday), I worked all day, then went for a 4.5 mile run. It was very difficult. I attribute its difficulty to the weekend and hope to feel a little more like myself tomorrow (I’m not running, swimming or biking, today). Today is a day off).
MVP Sports has the lowest prices on running shoes
From everywhere I’ve looked, online and off, MVP in Spanish Fork, Utah, has some of the lowest prices I’ve seen. This is not an ad, just a reminder to myself that the Asics Kayano 16′s are only 112 at MVP. Amazon’s lowest was 139. Nicely done, MVP.
Barefoot running
This afternoon, I ran 3 miles on the Provo River Trail. I ran the first 3 miles in 28 minutes. When I finished, I decided to cool down with a mile long run around the grass, across the street- barefoot. I’ve always wanted to try it, but finally just did it. Felt like a kid again.
What luck we have…
Dad, Charlie, another guy and me got drawn into Saint George, again. Oh, boy…good thing I’ve been training through the winter…
Should be able to sleep, tonight
It just occurred to me, now, that I feel a lot better than I did the other night, when my heart rate was at 86. I jut took my pulse and now I’m at 68 BPM. Much better. I feel better and don’t feel anxious or nervous. I ran a fast 5 with dad, tonight, so I’m not sure what the difference is. I had a couple of DP’s tonight, so I have a decent amount of caffeine in my system. So I’m not sure what was happening a few nights ago. Stress, maybe?
Moji knee for IT Band issues
Found this product and wonder if it works…A way to help knees recover from IT Band issues.
New Ragnar Relay announced in Tennessee!
Today, I noticed an announcement on the Ragnar Relay website for the Chattanooga to Nashville Ragnar Relay. We now have ANOTHER excuse to travel to Tennessee. Having a lot of family there (and having run the Country Music 1/2 Marathon), I’m pretty excited at the prospect of pulling together a team for this event. Not sure how many family members I can get together, but it would be a fun time.
Telephone conversation with Jim Price
I just got off of the phone with Jim Price, who is the Trails Coordinator for Mountainland Association of Governments. He is in charge of the 17 mile enclosure that is planned for the Murdock Canal structure. Here is what we learned from today’s conversation:
Me: Is there a place to view the trail plans?
Jim: So far, there isn’t a place to view the plans for the trail. When they become available, they will be located at www.mountainland.org.
Me: Will there be a dirt trail for running?
Jim: The intent is for the trail to be paved, but there will be an unpaved trail beside of for horses and runners.
Me: How can local runners help in this effort?
Jim: They will be looking for input on the trail, but will announce this on their website.
At the end of our conversation, Jim asked me if I had any more questions, which made me feel that he was interested in my (a runner’s) perspective on this project. I would suggest to local runners that you get involved in this process, when you can, so that we can get a decent dirt running trail in Utah County. If I get any more information, I’ll post it, here.
